What keeps us exercising is different for each person. However, one of the greatest ways to stay motivated, push yourself a little harder, and stay on track is to find a workout buddy or group.
If you have someone to talk to while you are exercising, it will make the time go buy quicker, and you may find a little competitive spirit! If you choose to take a class you may find that just by being around other people you are more excited to get off your butt up and out of the door.
Research from Indiana University shows that people who exercise together are seven times more likely to stick with a routine than those who do it alone. I have people tell me all the time that they never work as hard alone. So a buddy is beneficial to your mental and physical health!
Some friends just need a little push to get involved. So instead of having coffee, with a friend, suggest a walk in the park. Instead of going out for lunch, ask a friend if she would like to have a picnic and go for a walk. Packing your lunch will not only save you calories, but also dollars and you’ll have someone to enjoy it with!
Try a new class, or join a club. The possibilities are endless. There is Yoga, Spin classes, Zumba, Step Aerobics, Pilates, and more. Ann Arbor is full of choices. There is bound to be a class that you enjoy.
If you like to run, walk, or bicycle then find a running partner or group.
