Are you desperately trying to eat as healthy as you can? Is it for weight loss or for sports performance or just simply for a healthy future? No matter how strongly you feel about it; It’s CRAZY DIFFICULT! This is why I recommend allowing yourself a cheat day. Most importantly, A cheat day will give you a some mental relief.
But did you know that there is science out there that supports this theory? A long term calorie deficit can cause changes in your thyroid function, it can cause leptin levels to fall, and Basal Metabolic Rate to fall. These are all cues to your body to hang onto fat. A cheat day, theoretically, can decrease these effects. This is great news!
So how does it work?
One of the great ways to use a cheat day is for a special occasion. Do you have a wedding this weekend, or an anniversary dinner? Allow yourself to indulge in those special occasion treats, and don’t feel guilty. You can be assured that if you have been pretty good all week, you are simply resetting your metabolic rate and giving yourself a well deserved mental break from counting calories.
My recommendation would be to have a sensible breakfast. Then let lunch and dinner be meals that you really love. I usually end up choosing pizza, and then I have dessert. Depending on the day, it may only be one meal and dessert, but other weeks it may end up being lunch and dinner.
Your best plan is to eat your cheat meals out. This way there are no leftovers hanging around the house the next day.
Be sure to plan it into your week. Otherwise you could end up with more then one cheat day.
